From Our Halls to History

The path to the Olympic podium began right here in Douglasville. Before Elana Meyers Taylor was a global icon, she was a student walking the halls of Chestnut Log Middle School, sitting in our classrooms, and embodying the spirit of a Bear.

She took that spirit to the world stage and refused to let anything slow her down. At 41 years old, she defied every expectation to capture the Gold in the monobob. It wasn’t just a win; it was a statement. With that run, she became the oldest female Olympian to win a medal and the most decorated Black athlete in Winter Games history.

Elana is living proof to every student currently sitting in a Chestnut Log desk: the foundation you build here can take you to the top of the world. She has shown us that resilience has no expiration date and that once you are a Bear, you are capable of legendary things.
