What is Focus?

In June 2014, the Douglas County School System, in partnership with Communities in Schools of Douglas County, completed the renewal year of an ongoing 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant program.  The program was again renewed for the 2019/2020 school year on a 5 year grant with Communities in Schools of Douglas County.   The program, known as Focus, serves students at Chestnut Log Middle School (CLMS) and other schools in the Douglas County School System. These schools have been in the 21st Century Grant Program since 2006. CLMS Focus, is strategically designed to increase student academic skills, improve self-esteem and provide exposure to life-skills through hands-on activities. Educational experiences provided through the after school program are specifically designed to instill in the student a lifelong love of learning. Additionally, all of the activities take place in a safe and productive environment.

Registration Requirements

Parents are required to attend an orientation session each year before students are allowed to attend the program. Parents must complete a student registration sheet during the orientation session.

Attendance

Good attendance is critical for students! If students are not at school, they are missing critical instruction. Please strive for perfect attendance this year! The more days your child is in school the more they are learning. The 21st CCLC program requires students to attend a minimum of 2.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

Withdrawal Requirements

If a student is changing schools and needs to withdraw from the program, a written request or phone call from parents to the Site Coordinator at school is required.
