                                                                  About The School

Chestnut Log Middle School (CLMS) was built in Douglas County in 1987 on 97 beautiful acres. Many years ago, this area was home to Native Americans who used an enormous chestnut tree as a landmark. The bark was stripped off the tree, and the trunk was carved with messages in Native American symbols. Settlers also used the tree to leave messages for other travelers. The school is named for the tree and the "Skint" Chestnut community. These messages were meant to impart wisdom and knowledge to travelers as they passed by. Even though the tree does not exist today, the lore of the tree still guides our community.

Douglas County's nearness to Atlanta has caused an influx of families to our area. Presently, Douglas County is the 16th largest county in Georgia and continuing to grow. CLMS is surrounded by residential neighborhoods that vary greatly in socio-economic status.  We have over 70 staff members serving your students here at CLMS.
